Learning from the p̶s̶t̶ past

After reading sans papiers I felt an overwhelming sense of need to look back and reflect. Sans papiers gives you a sense of the past and what you left behind. Starting by talking about water and how you should fall into it. Many times one might say that the past holds only regrets but the wise understand that the past brings much wisdom as well. An ocean of regrets that can give oneself knowledge and wisdom. Think back to a time when you did something wrong and had to pay the price. Learn from that mistake and fix it, if you ever encounter the same situation. When attempting to lie, look back on when you got caught. The tiniest of details can inevitably end up in being your doom. Debatably one of the wisest in cartoon history, Rafiki can even back this up. He once said, “Oh yes, the past can hurt, but the way I see it you can either run from it or learn from it.”

But there are times when you look back on the past and avoid the problem all together rather than attacking it and finding a solution. Many people who are domestically abused attempt to sustain the relationship by keeping the other person happy. They attempt to be less problematic for the other person, while they themselves are not the problem at all. The only problem is the abuser. Digging deeper in the past could’ve led to a solution, rather they attempted to avoid the past ever again and just hope that it wouldn’t occur once more. This is the opposite of what you should do while looking back.
